Battery Energy Storage Systems
BESS Energy Storage Systems (Battery Energy Storage System) are industrial systems designed to store electricity and use it when needed. BESS is charged during periods of low consumption or excess generation — including from solar power plants — and supplies the stored energy during peak loads or grid outages, ensuring the energy independence of the enterprise.
For businesses, BESS solves three key tasks: backup power supply in the event of outages, peak load shaving (peak shaving) to reduce electricity costs, and microgrid stabilization at facilities with their own generation. The system consists of three basic components:
- Inverters (PCS) — convert the batteries' direct current into alternating current and control energy flows between the source, storage system, and load.
- Battery Cabinets and Modules — the actual energy storage capacity of the system, which determines how many hours of autonomous operation the facility can maintain.
- Backup Power Supply Kits / Energy Storage Systems — ready-made solutions for typical autonomous power supply scenarios without the need to select each component separately.
A BESS system operates most effectively in combination with other generation sources — solar power plants, diesel generators, or gas generators — forming a hybrid autonomous or backup power supply system for the enterprise.
